Homeowners associations were supposed to keep the neighborhood nice. In reported cases across North America they've become private governments: five-figure fines compounding over lawn care, liens, garnished wages, even foreclosure threats, over weeds.
No elected government could get away with these penalties. A volunteer board with a grudge shouldn't either.
We demand state and provincial caps on HOA fines, mandatory independent appeal before any lien, and a ban on foreclosure for cosmetic violations.
Your home should not be hostage to the landscaping committee.
