Renting now comes with a menu of invented charges: application fees for apartments that were never available, "administrative" fees, even fees for the privilege of paying rent online.
And when the fees aren't enough, there's the renoviction: an eviction dressed up as a renovation, designed to reset the unit at double the rent. In Canada it's common enough to have its own word.
We demand all-in advertised rent, a ban on junk rental fees, and real renoviction protections with right-of-return at the old rent.
